I literally went community college for print design and publishing, but everything I learned about self-publishing novels, comics, zines, and newsletters came from the school of hard knocks.

In this panel I'll start by talking about the physical process of making a book, because - in my experience - it's been vital knowledge for every other part of publishing one. We'll make a couple of small paper booklets to showcase how formatting plays into everything and then we'll go from there into the importance of having a team to fill in what you cannot do - all stuff before the actual publishing part.

From there, I'll discuss the replete landscape of options for authors, what's worked for me, and how I managed to dodge bullets by tripping over my own feet. From there, the audience takes the lead in a on-topic Q/A session

Requirements:

  • Two portable microphones in case the room is too large/acoustic-dampening for voices to carry.

  • Copy paper and pencils for audience members.
